Taishan

I met up with Shawn again on monday evening in Tai'an, the city at the bottom of Mt. Taishan. We went to bed early that night as we were to get up early the next morning. However, we didnt leave the hotel until 9 am the next morning. We took a cab to the Dai temple, from where we started our walk, which quickly turned into a step exercise. The central route, which we chose, is nothing but a steady climb of stairs all the way to the top.

The first goal was to reach the 'Midway Gate to Heaven', which is half way up as the name already suggests. It didnt take long before Shawn started moaning and complaining and I eventually dropped him. I had lunch up at 'Midway' and waited for him, who after 20 minutes still hadnt appeared. He had already told me about his plan to take the gondola, so I eventually continued taking on the 2nd stage.



All there was were stairs and more stairs. The construction must have taken forever. But the Chinese seem to do anything to make the Emperors life easier. Though I am not sure whether this actually makes climbing the mountain any easier. I only know that my legs were pretty sore once I climbed all the 6600 steps to the top.

Unfortunatelly, it was hazy that day not enabling us to see too far. All there remained was to explore the number of temples around.



Nach einem wochenende in Peking traf ich Shawn am montag abend in Tai'an, der Ort am Fusse der Taisha Berges, wieder. Es ging frueh ins Bett, da wir am naechsten Morgen frueh raus wollten um den Taishan zu besteigen. Allerdings verliessen wir das Hotel nicht vor 9 uhr. Wir nahmen ein Taxi vom Dai Tempel, von wo wir unseren Marsch starteten, der schnell zum Treppensteigen ueberging.

Unser erstes Etappenziel war der 'Mittlere Tor zum Himmel ', welches sich auf dem halben Weg nach oben befindet. Das Treppensteigen wurde Shawn auch schnell zu viel und er fing an zu fluchen (typisch). Er wurde immer langsamer und so liess ich ihn dann auch bald zurueck. Am Etappenziel hatte ich Mittag und wartete fuer 20 minuten. Von Shawn keine spur. Da ich aber wusste, dass er die Gondel nach oben nehmen wollte startete ich dann die 2. Etappe mit Ziel Gipfel.

Auf dem Weg dort hin gab es nichst ausser Treppen. Man fragt sich, wie lange dauert es um Treppen zu bauen bis auf die Hoehe von 1540 metern. Aber Chinesen scheinen ja alles zu tun um das Leben Ihres Kaisers zu erleichtern. Die Frage ist nur ob das Erreichen des Gipfels wirklich einfacher ist mit Treppen (steigen). Ich weis nur, dass die 6600 treppen doch sehr anstrengend waren.



Der Aufstieg haette sich noch mehr gelohnt, waere es nicht so truebe gewesen und mab haette weiter sehen koennen. So verblieben uns nur der Besuch der unzaehligen Tempel auf dem Gipfel.
